With a Leupold VX-2 3-9x40 scope mounted on Leupold dual dovetail rings and loaded with a maximum of five rounds of ammunition, the Momentum I tested weighed almost exactly eight poundslight enough to carry on long hikes through steep country but not unpleasant to shoot. Id pick the CVA Cascade from that group. The stock is not very rigid, the butt pad is too stiff, and the stock geometry is only acceptable. Scope bases follow the Remington 700 mounting footprint, but the action length does not so only 2-piece R700 bases or separate rings will work. I see that you really like the Savage, but I was wondering if you have shot the Howa? Lets weed out a few rifles I DONT recommend first. A shiny one. This gun is very accurate, has a great bump pad to absorb recoil (unlike most wood rifles) and has a threaded barrel for good measure. At the back of the bolt shroud, the firing pin protrudes to show cocked status (as seen above) and is flush with the rear of the bolt shroud when not cocked.
